Problem
More than two million people were left hungry and homeless after a powerful cyclone crashed into the coast of Bangladesh on November 15, 2007. Thousands of people have lost their homes, crops, and livestock in the disaster. They are now in desperate need of food, clean water, and shelter.
The Gift
Your gift will provide enough food to sustain a family for one month, and help the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) fight hunger in the aftermath of the disaster.
Past experience has shown that in the wake of a cyclone, there is often a surge in the rates of malnutrition and deaths, as those who lose their homes and livelihoods struggle to feed their families. To avoid widespread hunger, WFP is delivering food to disaster-struck regions of Bangladesh to help families get back on their feet.
The monthly ration provided by WFP for a family consists of rice, pulses, cooking oil, blended food, salt and high energy biscuits. This package is designed to meet nutritional needs of a family of five for one month.
