Problem
Nowhere is the "digital divide" more visible than in developing countries. Throughout most of the developing world, computers are available to less than one percent of the population. Computer literacy is one of the largest unmet needs of the educational systems in our partner countries and often what holds young students back from being part of the global community and from improving their life situation.
The Gift
Computer labs can have a life-changing impact on students. They provide core job skills and pre-vocational training in Information Technology for disadvantaged, at-risk youth populations. Furthermore, computer use helps reduce attrition rates by providing an incentive to students who might otherwise drop out of school. Thus, computer labs not only have an immediate impact of providing exposure to the outside world, they also provide for long-term growth and access to higher-paying jobs for students who would otherwise never have such opportunities.
Your donation will purchase a computer that will be placed directly in a computer lab in a primary or secondary school in Vietnam. Several hundred children will have access to this computer facility on a daily basis with training provided by a Vietnamese teacher.
