Being an artist is akin to being a very small—one or two person—business. Financial management, time management, marketing, and distribution issues all factor into an artist’s ability to maintain a creative and professional life. However, very few artists have been trained in these areas and instead need to develop the skills and knowledge on their own.

The Gift

Your gift will provide an artist with one hour with a coach who can help them work through a professional challenge. Creative Capital has put together a network of specialized consultants around the country who are capable of addressing the specific needs of artists. These include financial managers knowledgeable in issues that face freelancers; niche marketing consultants; intellectual property lawyers; and business consultants. We provide our grantees with access to these experts on both a short- and long-term basis, and grantees have used their assistance to negotiate new opportunities, get out of debt, and reach communities outside of the traditional arts audiences. Creative Capital has also shared such information with more than 1,000 artists around the country through professional development workshops, which are taught by our own grantees using an integrated curriculum addressing strategic planning, marketing/PR, fundraising, and financial/time management.
